Position Summary
Tanaq is seeking a UXO Safety Officer/Quality Control Specialist (UXOSO/QCS) to provide UXO support to a Vegetation and Target Management Services project at Fort Anderson-Pinn-Hill (A.P. Hill), VA. The responsibilities include target removal/replacement of known or suspected Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) contaminating the site. The team will employ robotic technologies for target removal/replacement unless site conditions preclude such technologies.
The removed targets will be transported to an inspection area.
Responsibilities
- Perform reconnaissance, classification, and identification of UXO and all types of military munitions.
- Inspect, certify, and verify Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH).
- Operate personnel decontamination stations.
- Determine precise location in the field environment using GPS and basic land navigation techniques.
- Assist in the preparation of risk and hazards analyses.
- Conduct daily site safety briefings and UXO safety trainings.
- Oversee the safe conduct of all on‑site UXO related operations.
- Analyze operational risks, explosive hazards, and safety requirements.
- Establish and ensure compliance with all site‑specific explosive operations safety requirements.
- Enforce personnel limits and safety exclusion zones for explosives‑related operations.
- Conduct, document, and report safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable explosives safety policies, standards, regulations, and codes.
- Maintain a daily logbook of activities and required site documentation.
- Collect and verify project personnel certifications and maintain UXO and equipment operator certifications and qualifications.
- Develop and implement an effective quality control (QC) system.
- Conduct and document QC audits of MEC‑related activities and prepare QC reports.
- Identify, document, and report corrective actions for compliance with requirements.
- Ensure compliance with DoD Military Service‑and DDESB‑approved site plans.
- Integrate real‑time inspections with structured corrective action procedures.
- Implement metrics for inspection and corrective action procedures.
- Perform initial MEC safety assessment along with SUXOS.
- Document all MEC and MPPEH found in the project areas and notify the Range Control Fire Desk.
- Attend and ensure all UXO team members attend an in‑person UXO brief conducted by the FWVA Range Safety Specialist and sign a Hold Harmless Agreement prior to the start of any work.
- Maintain certificates of completion and ensure training updated annually.
Other Responsibilities May Include
- Develop and implement the MEC‑specific sections of the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP).
- Operate and maintain air‑monitoring equipment required at sites known or suspected for airborne contaminates.
- Assist in the inspection of Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH).
- Construct UXO related protective works.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years prior military EOD and/or 10 years of commercial UXO experience in munitions response actions or range clearance activities.
- Ability to work at various project locations at Fort Walker, VA.
- Valid driver's license in good standing; HAZMAT endorsement preferred.
- Pass pre‑employment drug screen, physical and OSHA physical.
- Background check required; DOJ‑ATFE Employee Possessors clearance required.
- Fluent in English (writing and speaking).
- Obtain and maintain government clearance and access to client site.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
