Overview

Position Summary:

Quality Control Technician performs inspections to ensure the machining process quality and conformance to show drawings. Working with the team to ensure accuracy of outsourced components, this team member must be familiar with various machining processes.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect outsourced components to ensure accuracy of work and conformance of shop drawings.
  • Utilize various types of metrology equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauge, thread gauges, hardness tester, and laser alignment system.
  • Ensure raw materials used in machining processes are in conformance with shop drawings.
  • Designate acceptance or rejection of machined and outsourced components.
  • Interface with area supervisors, machinists, welders to coordinate required repairs and/or replacements as necessary.
  • Perform visual inspection of shop weldments verifying weldments are in accordance with shop drawings and applicable AWS standards.
  • Oversee ultrasonic shear wave testing (UT), liquid dye penetrant (PT), and magnetic particle testing (MT) performed by others.
  • Test and measure finished products, components, or assemblies for assembly, function and operation to verify adherence to specified performance.
  • Oversee the third-party calibration of measurement devices.
  • Document inspection activities/results and prepare inspection reports.
  • Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and organized manner; follow all safety guidelines.
  • Commit to lifelong learning by completing all assigned learning and seeking opportunities to improve self.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required

Experience &

Skills:

  • Experience in interpretation of fabrication drawings and project specifications.
  • Experience with various machining processes.
  • A working knowledge of manufacturers and industry standards, including AWS D1.1 and AWS D14.1; training will be provided for the right candidate meeting our cultural requirements.
  • Certified inspector a plus but will train the right candidate meeting our cultural requirements.
  • Requires solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills are required.
  • Overall basic IT/PC/Technology literacy a plus but willing to train.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify.
