High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in utility inspections, experience in construction of roads and/or utility projects or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good knowledge of methods and materials used in the construction of utility piping systems and infrastructure.
Qualifications- Familiarity with erosion and sedimentation control procedures as part of the Virginia Erosion Control Handbook.
- Working skills in reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications.
- Ability to apply the principles and methods of surveying and use surveying equipment, including leveling devices.
- Knowledge of GPS (Global Position System) and fundamental knowledge of soil testing and compaction.
- Experience in record keeping and good communication skills for reporting to the Inspector Supervisor and others within the department.
- Experience with Windows operating environment on portable computers and Arc View GIS software preferred.
- Ability to resolve disputes and provide exceptional customer service.
- Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Driver record must not reflect six or more demerit points within 24 months prior to hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding 36 months. Out‑of‑state driving records must be obtained and presented ords must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
- Pre‑employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
- Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment.
- Inspection of the field installation of water and sewer lines associated with Capital Improvement Projects to insure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Provide written daily status reports of work inspected.
- Inspection of waterline pressure tests, chlorine residual checks, sewer line air pressure tests, and sewer manhole vacuum testing.
- Coordinate disinfection, testing and utility shutdowns.
- Provide written documentation of materials and quantities and complete necessary “as‑built” drawings and forms using software applications.
- Serve as a county representative to citizens concerning all aspects of construction.
- Perform other work as required.
