Position Overview

Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Joan

C. Edwards School of Medicine, Marshall University, invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor position. The successful candidate will lead and conduct cutting-edge research focused on understanding bacterial virulence mechanisms and developing innovative therapeutic strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Research Execution:
  Design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments related to bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and microbial genetics.
• In Vivo Modeling:
  Utilize and manage animal models, including murine (mouse) systems, to investigate the complexities of bacterial infections and test novel therapeutics.
• Molecular Biology:
  Perform advanced molecular techniques, including gene expression analysis, RNA sequencing ( RNA
  -Seq), proteomics, and basic bioinformatics.
• Dissemination of Data:
  Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Lab Leadership & Mentorship:
  Assist in the daily operations of the lab, including the supervision, training, and mentorship of junior lab members, technicians, and students.

Salary Range

Required Qualifications

Education

• Ph.D., MD/Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.

Experience

• Demonstrated track record of productive research in bacterial pathogenesis or infectious diseases.
• Hands-on experience with in vivo murine models.
• Proficiency in standard molecular biology, biochemistry, and cloning techniques.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven history of peer-reviewed publications.
