Material recycling facility Landfill in Waverly, VA
Conducts basic tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare samples for analysis in accordance with established protocols
- Conduct basic chemical and physical laboratory and field tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances
- Collect samples of gases from air emission points, and collect other air samples and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of atmospheric pollutants
- Collect water samples from raw, semi‑processed or processed water, industrial waste water, or water from other sources to assess pollution problem
- Collect soil, silt, mud, or sediment samples to determine chemical composition and nature of pollutants
- Prepare samples for testing, record data, prepare summaries and charts for review, and develop a report detailing activities performed and results received
- Set monitoring equipment to provide flow of information
- Install, operate and perform routine maintenance on gas and fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation
- Assist with the installation of routine equipment and instrumentation
- Operate fixed or mobile monitoring or data collection station
- Conduct bacteriological or other tests related to research in environmental or pollution control activity
- Audit properties of samples collected to identify physical evidence of environmental releases
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- No experience. Zero to four years of prior experience.

Physical RequirementsThis job operates in both inside gas plant conditions as well as in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
This role is designated as safety‑sensitive and requires strict compliance with all safety rules and protocols. May be subject to drug and alcohol testing—including pre‑employment screening, post‑incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing—in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
