Location: Gloucester Point

Laboratory & Field Research Specialist

Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, Laboratory & Field Research Specialist focuses on documenting the structure and properties of upper seabed and lower water column, including seabed composition, layering, and erodibility, and suspended sediment concentration and water flow above the seabed. Focus may evolve to reflect in-house contracts, as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collect field data.
  • Perform laboratory studies (complete laboratory analysis, data entry/management).
  • Process field and lab data as needed for project
  • Maintain field and lab equipment and materials;
Education:

Bachelor's degree in marine science, environmental science, biological science, resource management or a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training and or experience.

Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Certificate of successful completion of a Coast Guard endorsed boating safety course (or achieved within 90 days of employment).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or achieved within 90 days of employment).
Competencies:
  • Familiarity with environmental research procedures, with the ability to perform field sampling and laboratory techniques.
  • Familiarity with boat handling and trailering.
  • Effective problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot failing instrumentation and equipment as well as modifying instrumentation for specific needs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work as an effective team member. Proficiency with a variety of software applications, including MS Office, with the ability to learn additional data analysis and instrument specific software
  • Must be comfortable working in and around the water. Ability to engage in strenuous work, tolerate inclement weather conditions and resist motion sickness, while successfully performing assigned responsibilities.
Experience:
  • Technical experience with a variety of environmental research instrumentation and power tools.
  • Experience performing sampling and field studies

Pay range:
Up to $36,996, commensurate with experience. Position term: 12 Month – Restricted Final date to receive applications:
July 25th
