Position: IDS Dispatcher - Night Shift (24/7 Security Monitoring)

Job Description

Everforth ECS is seeking an IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems) Dispatcher to work onsite at our Dulles, VA office. This critical, entry‑level position is part of the US Postal Service security and alarm monitoring team, providing 24/7 continuous monitoring and emergency dispatch services for USPS hubs, outlets, offices and distribution centers. Core responsibilities include security and alarm system monitoring, event logging and recording of centrally managed IDS systems, radio monitoring, non‑emergency and emergency dispatching, incident reporting, and utilization of investigative databases.

The position is contingent upon additional funding.

Candidates must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays across 3‑day shifts. They must also pass a USPIS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) and obtain a USPS Public Trust (elevated) clearance, which requires US citizenship and a stringent background check.

Required Skills
  • Strong computer and data entry skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks from multiple simultaneous sources (radio, telephone, alarm monitoring software, etc.).
  • Effective monitoring of radio communications.
  • Timely response to requests for information.
  • Monitoring of intrusion detection systems (IDS) using automated alarm monitoring software.
  • Initiating internal and external law‑enforcement response based on defined criteria.
  • Accurate capture and documentation of event information.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of information stored in the alarm database.
  • Professional customer service to internal and external parties.
  • Monitoring of biological detection systems (BDS) and dissemination of information.
  • Clear and concise communication via telephone and radio.
  • Accessing and communicating intelligence data maintained in internal and external databases.
  • Querying, entering, and updating electronic records.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring multiple computer monitors.
  • Maintaining professionalism under highly stressful situations.
  • Reading and comprehending the English language, including printed regulations, written instructions and training material.
  • Writing reports and documenting events concisely and accurately, with proofreading for grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Fluent and clear English language skills.
  • Providing quality customer service while communicating with internal and external parties.
  • Auditing ordinary telephone and radio conversations with either ear.
Desired Skills
  • Prior experience with alarm monitoring and computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) software.
  • Obtaining dispatcher certification within nine (9) months of assignment equivalent to the APCO Law Enforcement Communications (LEC) certification.
  • Obtaining and maintaining National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS) Limited Certification within six (6) months of NLECC start date.
Benefits

This is a full‑time, hourly position that includes full benefits and available overtime. After 90 days of employment, qualified candidates may be eligible for promotion to Dispatcher Level I, contingent upon availability.
