Job Description
Job Title: School Security Officer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Contract Length: 181 days
Job Summary
The School Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding the physical security of school facilities, students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, the ability to respond effectively to emergencies, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Duties- Patrol school grounds and buildings regularly to ensure safety.
- Monitor access points to the school.
- Conduct security checks of classrooms, offices, and other areas.
- Report any suspicious activity or security breaches.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, such as active shooter situations, medical emergencies, or natural disasters.
- Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and other emergency responders as needed.
- Conduct safety training and drills for students and staff.
- Promote a culture of safety and awareness within the school community.
- Greet and screen visitors to the school.
- Ensure that visitors comply with school policies and procedures.
- De-escalate conflicts and disputes that may arise.
- Resolve issues peacefully and effectively.
- Maintain open and effective communication with school administrators, staff, students, and parents.
- Report incidents and concerns to appropriate personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the minimum qualifications, including a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience in security or law enforcement.
- Strong physical fitness and the ability to respond to emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
- CPR Certification.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone;
physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies.
