Job Description

Job Title: School Security Officer – Part‑Time

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

Job Summary: The School Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding the physical security of school facilities, students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, the ability to respond effectively to emergencies, and excellent communication skills.

  • Patrol school grounds and buildings regularly to ensure safety.
  • Monitor access points to the school.
  • Conduct security checks of classrooms, offices, and other areas.
  • Report any suspicious activity or security breaches.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, such as active shooter situations, medical emergencies, or natural disasters.
  • Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and other emergency responders as needed.
  • Conduct safety training and drills for students and staff.
  • Promote a culture of safety and awareness within the school community.
  • Greet and screen visitors to the school.
  • Ensure that visitors comply with school policies and procedures.
  • De‑escalate conflicts and disputes that may arise.
  • Resolve issues peacefully and effectively.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with school administrators, staff, students, and parents.
  • Report incidents and concerns to appropriate personnel.

Job Specifications,

Minimum Qualifications , Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Required:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the minimum qualifications, including a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in security or law enforcement. (not required)
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to respond to emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
  • CPR Certification.
