- Patrol assigned areas of the medical center to identify and respond to unsafe conditions and emergencies
- Answer calls for unauthorized or illegal activity within the building or campus grounds
- Respond to combative patients or visitors, fire alarms, infant/child abductions, active shooters, and other emergencies
- Perform routine inspections for hazards and unusual situations; lock and unlock doors
- Handle trespassing issues, property receipt and issue, deceased patient transport, and related duties
- Test and inspect Public Safety and safety equipment throughout the campus monthly
- Document rounds and write and submit incident reports by the end of the relevant shift
- Use the RMS Public Safety incident computer-based system and VH Risk Qual System
- Correct safety problems or submit work orders, memos, or reports
- Inspect fire extinguishers and eyewash stations and conduct Environment of Care and other safety inspections
- Test alarm systems and equipment and perform fire watches when requested
- Monitor camera, infant abduction, fire alarm, medical gas alarm, and generator alarm systems
- Investigate reports of property loss or damage and criminal activity
- Assist law enforcement with individuals in custody
- Analyze and coordinate responses to alarms and provide physical Public Safety during emergency incidents
- Inspect buildings and doors to ensure timely opening and proper security
- Pick up daily cash deposits for delivery to the cashier’s office
- Search patient rooms and property for contraband when requested and render it safe
- Respond to Air Care landings and takeoffs
- Provide directions, staff escorts, patient and staff safety standbys, and assistance with disputes or aggressive individuals
- Respond promptly to fire, biological, mass casualty, lockdown, radiation, and active-shooter emergencies
- Monitor ECO/TDO patients, assist with patient transport to BHS, and maintain order
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One year of previous law enforcement, public safety, college and/or fire department experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support), American Heart Healthcare Provider (HCP), AHA-approved required
- American Heart Association appropriate certification required before completion of orientation
- International Association for Healthcare Public Safety and Safety Basic Exam required within 1 year
- ASP baton, handcuff, OC Foam Spray, and aggression management training required within 6 months
- Good public relations and communication skills
- Ability to interact successfully with individuals of varying backgrounds and ethnicities
- Ability to work with individuals with special needs
- Ability to display compassion and help others
- Available for duty assignment at any Valley Health System facility, temporarily or permanently
- Ability to work alternate shifts and a flexible schedule
- Ability to work holidays and weekends
Demonstrates expertise in public safety protocols, emergency response, and safety inspections within a healthcare environment. Proficient in utilizing safety equipment and incident reporting systems while maintaining effective communication and compassion in diverse situations.
