Overview
U.S. Electrical Testing specializes in electrical acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and commissioning services for mission-critical facilities, secure environments, commercial and industrial clients, and electrical contractors. Capabilities include emergency response, engineering services, and turn-key installation and repair.
ResponsibilitiesLead and perform inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and start-up of low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, switch gear, relays, and motor control centers, in the field and shop environment. Understand sophisticated electrical distribution systems and operate complex test equipment. Contribute to a safe work environment and project success. Travel locally, regionally, nationally, and preferably internationally.
- Coordinate, lead, and support multiple projects, review documentation, and ensure completeness from receipt to invoice.
- Test low and medium voltage cables, transformers, switch gear, breakers, relays, and other electrical apparatus.
- Control material costs by eliminating waste and implementing control measures.
- Rotate emergency on-call duties and respond promptly to emergencies.
- Promote continuous improvement and teamwork.
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant electrical experience with a High School Diploma/GED.
- Valid/active U.S. Work Authorization.
- NETA / NICET certification (preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and manuals.
- Proficiency with protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switch gear, and test equipment like Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, and Fluke.
- Knowledge of insulation resistance, power factor, contact resistance, and Hi-Pot testing.
- Understanding of medium and high-voltage systems (up to 500kV) and arc flash hazard analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel and work in industrial, data center, and utility environments.
- Ability to work safely with minimal supervision and follow best practices.
- Perform acceptance and maintenance testing per NETA standards.
- Conduct protective relay testing, calibration, and programming.
- Perform circuit breaker and switch gear testing, including timing and injection tests.
- Troubleshoot faults and perform root cause analysis.
- Conduct transformer testing: turns ratio, insulation resistance, power factor.
- Adhere to electrical safety protocols, including LOTO and PPE.
- Maintain detailed test reports and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients for system commissioning.
- Mentor junior technicians as needed.
