Facility Maint. Mechanic II – Experienced Maintenance Generalist. Performs a variety of basic and intermediate mechanical & preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing, repair, and overhaul of equipment and facilities. Investigates need for repairs and collaborates with other facility personnel to ensure timely completion of all approved projects. Receives assignments, reviews work orders, priority status, time schedules, and completes work as specified.

• Perform basic and intermediate mechanical & preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing, repair, and overhaul of equipment and facilities.
• Investigate need for repairs and collaborate with facility personnel to ensure timely completion of all approved projects.
• Receive assignments, review work orders, prioritize status, and complete work as specified.
• Identify and secure appropriate supplies and equipment, and select appropriate process techniques.
• Clean, assemble, move, install, operate, test, and service portable and fixed equipment along with associated mechanical equipment and fixtures.
• Use hand and power tools, precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Repair or replace defective devices and control instruments; install special functional and structural parts.
• Detect malfunctions and maintain and repair machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer specifications, and oral and written instructions.
• Document and maintain all required records for assignments, work orders, instruction manuals, blueprints, and other materials.
• Update practices to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Research new techniques, materials, and equipment, and make recommendations to management.

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Trade or vocational school with maintenance curriculum geared towards repairs preferred.
• Three years of maintenance experience required; may be gained through on-the-job training or apprenticeship.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License preferred for hospital positions; required for Property Maintenance positions.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and others.
• Proficiency in using a computerized work order control system.
• Ability to maintain required records and follow verbal and written instructions.
• May be asked to provide basic general-purpose maintenance tools.
• Position deemed emergency personnel during emergency conditions.
• Criminal history check required for Property Maintenance positions.
• May be asked to provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites.
• May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs.
