Location: Stanardsville

Maintenance Worker

Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on school buildings, grounds, mechanical equipment and utility systems.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • Experience working in a wide variety of maintenance areas including electrical, plumbing, gas appliances, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and carpentry.
  • Ability to work independently from oral instructions, rough sketches and engineered drawings.
  • Experience operating various equipment used for mowing, snow removal and other grounds maintenance.
  • Physically able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Must be willing to obtain a Commercial Driving License with a School Bus endorsement within six months of employment.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Valid Electrician's, HVAC, Contractor or Apprentice License.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding applicable safety rules, regulations and fire code.
  • Experience with Metasys or other building control systems.
  • Basic Computer Knowledge / Experience Working with a PC.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers.)
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts.
  • Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
  • Calibrates and repairs pneumatic systems.
  • Replaces broken windows; repairs doors, door locks and closets; installs window blinds.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replaces and repairs wiring as needed.
  • Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs refrigeration equipment.
  • May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security.
  • May install computer cable.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings.
  • Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Performs outside grounds duties such as snow removal as required.
  • May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
  • Participate in maintenance emergency substitute bus driver rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions;

risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.

Supervisor

Maintenance worker will be responsible to the Maintenance Lead.

Terms Of Employment

12 months – 250 days (8 hours per day)

Salary: $30,976.00 to $49,543.00
