Job Summary
The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for the installation, termination, testing support, and maintenance of structured cabling systems for large‑scale commercial construction and infrastructure projects. This hands‑on role supports copper and fiber cabling installations, IT closet builds, network device installations, and cable pathway construction. The technician is expected to perform all work safely, accurately, and in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.
This is a contract‑to‑hire opportunity offering ongoing training, career development, and advancement within the telecommunications and low‑voltage industry.
- Install, route, and secure CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling throughout commercial facilities and construction environments
- Pull cable through ceilings, walls, conduits, and designated cable pathways
- Install cable support systems including J‑hooks, D‑rings, cable trays, ladder racks, and conduits
- Perform cable management activities including dressing, bundling, securing, and labeling cables
- Terminate cables at patch panels, keystone jacks, modular plugs (RJ‑45), outlets, and equipment racks
- Install and mount wireless access points (WAPs) and other network devices
- Assist with IT closet builds, including rack installation, ladder racks, cable trays, sleeves, and MDF/IDF setup
- Label all cabling and connections according to project standards and documentation requirements
- Assist with basic cable testing to verify continuity and performance
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, schematics, and technical documentation
- Coordinate daily activities with Lead Technicians and other trades on active jobsites
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow OSHA guidelines and all site‑specific safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling, low‑voltage systems, telecommunications, or commercial data cabling installation
- Experience pulling, routing, organizing, and terminating CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling
- Experience terminating RJ‑45 connectors and installing network devices and equipment
- Familiarity with cable pathway installation including J‑hooks, cable trays, ladder racks, and conduits
- Basic understanding of cable testing, labeling standards, and structured cabling best practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and technical instructions
- Familiarity with BICSI installation standards preferred
- BICSI Certification (Level 1 or higher) preferred
- OSHA 10 certification preferred
- Scissor lift certification preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while following direction from Lead Technicians
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
- Commercial construction experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial structured cabling, low‑voltage installation, telecommunications, or related construction environments
- Experience working in commercial construction, warehouse, logistics, industrial, or infrastructure project environments preferred

- Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 PM to 3:30 AM - Contract‑to‑hire opportunity
- Work is performed in active commercial construction and industrial facility environments
- Ability to travel to multiple project sites as required
- Occasional overtime may be required based on project demands
- Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in ceiling spaces
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
- Required tools include basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, tape measure, torpedo level, snips, cable strippers, punch down tools, modular plug crimpers, pliers, wrenches, flashlight, gloves, and tool pouch
