Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the safe operation, repair, rebuilding, and maintenance of company-owned or leased heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment, including rolling stock. The primary goal is to ensure all equipment is in top condition and operates safely at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment, including heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated vehicles.
- Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner and procure all necessary parts.
- Complete reports, work orders, and part orders daily; assist in reviewing mechanical write‑ups and coordinating repair schedules.
- Ensure safe working conditions and comply with all safety regulations and applicable laws.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the latest technology through technical manuals, seminars, and testing.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED; a technical diploma is preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a diesel mechanic. - Technical
Skills:
Experience using diagnostic software is a plus; must be computer literate and willing to be trained on new software systems. - Safety Standards:
Must meet relevant criteria for safety‑sensitive functions according to company standards. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to understand and use repair and parts manuals written in English.
- Ability to operate all vehicles and equipment necessary for the job.
- Physical Demands &
Working Conditions:- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and varying weather conditions (hot/cold/humid).
- Must possess, provide, and maintain the tools necessary for heavy/hydraulic equipment maintenance.
