Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic

Job Description

As a Light-Wheel Vehicle Mechanic for the Army National Guard you’ll ensure that anything that moves on wheels is ready to hit the road. In this role, you will primarily supervise and perform maintenance and recovery operations on wheeled vehicles both in the field and in the shop.

• Inspect, service, maintain, repair, test, adjust, and replace systems and components of wheeled vehicles.
• Perform recovery operations.
• Service electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and charging systems.
• Maintain associated trailers and material‑handling equipment systems.

• Interest in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems.
• Interest in automotive engines and their operation.

In the Army National Guard, you will learn valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance. Training requires 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn basic Soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
