Job Description

Position:
Quarry Utility Worker at Jacks Mountain Quarry, Glade Hill, VA
. The successful candidate will safely operate heavy equipment and maintain designated work areas.
- Operate skid loaders and heavy‑duty off‑road earth or rock moving equipment (rigid frame/articulated haul units, off‑road haul trucks, wheel loaders, etc.).
- Perform preventative maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and basic operation of equipment.
- Conduct a pre‑shift inspection of all equipment used daily.
- Abide by all company safety guidelines and keep adequate guarding around pinch points.
- Understand basic functions of each machine and job duties performed.
- Maintain proper berm heights as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- At least 1 year experience working in a rock quarry (preferred).
- Experience with cutting torch and welder (preferred).
- Experience operating smaller pieces of equipment.
- Mechanically inclined with good communication and time‑management skills.
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, working at heights up to 350 ft, repetitive motion, squatting for extended periods (up to 12 h).
- Use Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Walk/stand on uneven ground and catwalks during the work day.
- Work a minimum of 50 hours per week with overtime as needed.
- Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Work outside in all weather conditions: heat, cold, dust, wet conditions for a minimum of 8 h per day.
- High noise levels while wearing proper PPE.
- Possibility of exposure to dust, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, fuels, etc.
