Location: Chatham

Drake Restoration is seeking a skilled and dependable Lead Furniture Reupholsterer with strong expertise in wood finishing and reupholstery to oversee upholstery projects in its Chatham, VA workshop. This role is hands‑on and involves restoring, refinishing, and reupholstering commercial and antique furniture to a high standard of craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform reupholstering of dining chairs, including removal and replacement of fabric, padding, and materials
  • Oversee furniture restoration projects, including repairs to frames, springs, and finishes
  • Guide and support team members, ensuring quality standards and best practices are followed
  • Measure, cut, and apply fabric, leather, or other upholstery materials with precision
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and customer expectations
  • Maintain workflow efficiency and meet project deadlines
  • Keep workspace clean, organized, and safe
  • Communicate with management regarding project status, materials, and scheduling
  • Drive to local communities as needed to deliver completed chairs and pick up furniture for reupholstering and restoration
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in furniture upholstery and restoration required
  • Strong leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to safely transport furniture
  • Advanced knowledge of upholstery tools, materials, and techniques
  • Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Ability to train and mentor team members
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to lift and move furniture as needed
Working Conditions

  • Travel to nearby communities for deliveries and pickups
  • Standing, bending, and lifting throughout the workday
