FleetMechanic Technician
Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled and dependable Fleet Mechanic Technician to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and readiness of MEC’s fleet vehicles and mechanical equipment that support daily operations and service to our members.
Position Responsibilities- Service and repair Cooperative vehicles and equipment, including engines, drive trains, brakes, suspension and steering systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Assist with major fleet repairs, rebuilds, replacements, overhauls, alignments, body repairs, and fabrication projects.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and safety checks in accordance with Cooperative, state, and federal requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance work, repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
- Operate and maintain shop equipment, including tire machines, wheel balancers, hoists, jacks, diagnostic equipment, and air tools.
- Diagnose mechanical and electronic issues using computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain shop facilities, tools, equipment, and inventory in accordance with safe mechanical practices.
- Assist with vehicle transfers, parts pickup, and other fleet support activities as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Trade or technical school training specializing in automotive mechanics, hydraulic systems, and/or diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum of three years of professional automotive maintenance and repair experience.
- Current Class A Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Virginia inspection licensure requirements.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Experience with computer diagnostics and electronic troubleshooting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of heavy-duty vehicles, gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, computerized vehicle systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to diagnose, repair, and rebuild mechanical systems.
- Experience safely operating automotive repair tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, work orders, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with employees, vendors, contractors, and members.
Physical Requirements
This position primarily works in a garage environment with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The role may require overtime or after-hours support to maintain fleet reliability and assist with Cooperative operations. The position requires physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Candidates must be able to frequently lift up to 100 pounds independently and occasionally lift or move up to 200 pounds with assistance.

Salary Range:
Minimum $31.39 Maximum $45.49 per hour
