Position: Domestic Violence Sexual Assault (DVSA) Advocate
Location: Dumfries

Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) is dedicated to fostering hope, providing relief, and promoting self-sufficiency for individuals and families in the Prince William area who are experiencing crisis. ACTS works to create a supportive community where no one feels alone or underserved. The organization offers a range of crisis services and programs aimed at making a positive impact. Additionally, ACTS collaborates with volunteers, businesses, and community partners to further their mission of meaningful change.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role in Dumfries, VA, for a Domestic Violence Sexual Assault (DVSA) Advocate. The DVSA Advocate will provide direct support and advocacy for individuals affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, intake assessment, safety planning, resource referrals, and case management. The advocate will coordinate with community organizations and assist survivors with accessing counseling services, legal assistance, and shelter resources.

The role also involves maintaining accurate client documentation and participating in outreach and prevention initiatives to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault.

Qualifications
  • Strong crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, client advocacy, and safety planning skills.
  • Experience in case management, including resource referrals and coordination with community organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Basic administrative and organizational abilities, including accurate documentation and report writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain confidentiality.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience in advocacy or crisis services will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault issues, laws, and resources is a strong asset.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are preferred.
