Skills Coach

The Skills Coach plays a vital role in supporting students and residents in both school and residential treatment settings. The Skills Coach is responsible for actively engaging and monitoring students and residents in a school and residential treatment environment. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu where individuals can participate in program activities that promote personal development and growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Therapeutic Environment Management
    • Monitor and observe student and resident interactions during daily activities.
    • Ensure a safe and supportive environment by adhering to program protocols, fostering positive behaviors, and preventing conflict.
    • Conduct regular contraband and body searches to maintain safety in accordance with facility policies.
  • Individual Coaching & Group Facilitation
    • Provide personalized coaching in behavioral, social, and educational skills.
    • Lead group sessions that foster emotional and social growth.
    • Recognize emotional or behavioral patterns that may require intervention, implementing appropriate behavior management techniques.
    • Avoid power struggles and build strong therapeutic rapport with residents, promoting an environment that facilitates maximum therapeutic benefits.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Accurately document all interactions, incidents, and progress in the facility's electronic system.
    • Maintain up-to-date reports on treatment, behavior, and interventions, ensuring confidentiality in line with HIPAA and facility standards.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Actively engage with other professionals as part of a treatment team to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans.
    • Communicate observations and concerns during team meetings to ensure coordinated care for each resident.
    • Refer any unresolved issues to supervisors or the treatment team for additional support.
  • Daily Program and Schedule Adherence
    • Follow the structured daily program schedule, ensuring residents participate in activities as planned.
    • Perform regular rounds based on the observation levels of residents.
    • Maintain responsibility for keys and ensure that all rooms are secure according to program protocols.
  • Classroom Support & Supervision
    • Supervise and guide students during classroom sessions, assisting them with assignments and maintaining engagement in schoolwork.
    • Enforce classroom policies, including restricting personal items and monitoring computer usage.
    • Provide behavior redirection, monitor behavior patterns, and retrieve unapproved materials when necessary.
    • Actively participate in classroom activities to ensure students stay on task and receive the support needed for academic success.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance
    • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students' and residents' personally identifiable health information.
    • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and facility policies related to privacy and confidentiality.
    • Complete mandatory staff development requirements as stipulated by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Professional Development
    • Receive supervision from clinical staff to improve interactions with students and residents.
    • Attend ongoing training and workshops to enhance professional skills and improve job performance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Assist in various tasks that may arise related to both the school and residential setting, ensuring the smooth operation of the program.
Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate or bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities.
  • Experience working in a therapeutic, educational, or residential setting with youth or individuals in treatment programs is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and experience implementing them in a structured environment is an advantage.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Behavioral Management Program
  • Valid Drivers license
Working Conditions

Works in well lighted, air conditioned, and heated environment. Kenbridge, VA Onsite Full Time $16.00 - $23.00 per hour
