Performs crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management duties at a highly professional level. Works closely with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Law Enforcement Agencies, Court personnel, State Agencies, and other human services delivery organizations. Supervision by the Unit Director and Assistant Director.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Responsible for providing direct services to victims of crime (as required by VOCA and the Virginia Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act) including personal advocacy/court accompaniment; emotional support and safety services; information and explanation of the criminal/civil justice system; and providing referrals for counseling and financial resources.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining client files; data entry and submitting quarterly reports.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in ensuring proper services are delivered to clients and the general public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies, departments, individuals and the general public along with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a complex, rapid pace, challenging environment while providing advocacy and clerical responsibilities in the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of the practices and techniques involved in crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of modern principles and practices of the criminal justice system.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and legal practices.
Preferred Experience Includes:
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in administration of justice, sociology, psychology.
- Related field and considerable experience working with clients of the criminal justice systems.
- Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
- Previous criminal justice advocacy experience preferred.
