Military And Family Life Counselor - Child Youth and School Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide the full breadth of child and youth behavioral counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations and off‑installations.
• Deliver non‑medical counseling, brief assessment, action planning, referrals, and follow‑up, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity.
• Offer training and health‑and‑wellness presentations, and participate in health fairs and other installation activities focused on children and youth.
• Consult with parents, installation personnel, schools, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth.
• Maintain daily activity data through a smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to DoD protocols.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with installation/branch points of contact and community resources.
• Manage duty to warn, restricted‑reporting, and other DoD protocols; staff cases with regional supervisors and attend regular individual and group supervision.
• Respond to critical incidents and special requests approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense program manager; flex schedule for urgent requests.
• Participate in in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees, pilot programs, certification training, and other contract activities as directed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned within the scope of the job.

• Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental‑health related field.
• Valid, unrestricted independent counseling license (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.) from any U.S. state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth.
• Less than two years post‑licensure clinical experience.
• Intermediate‑level competence with Microsoft Office, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet, and video‑conferencing platforms.
• Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children in emergent situations, including traversing distances within a base or school and working in outdoor conditions.
• U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
• Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for service members and their families, and ability to work with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) clearance, an Installation Records Check (IRC), a criminal background check, and FBI fingerprints check.
• Vehicle operator’s license (U.S. state) if required; may also need a military vehicle operator’s permit for TDY locations.
• Compliance with Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
• Prior school‑setting experience required for school‑assigned counselors.

Salary range: $59,922 – $100,280, based on national data. Actual pay may vary by location and be adjusted per skills, experience, and other factors. The position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
