Long Term Substitute School Counselor

Summary

Orange Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long Term Substitute School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to students, staff, and families during the absence of the regular school counselor. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering a positive school environment, promoting student well-being, and addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

• Provide individual and group counseling services to students, addressing academic, social, and emotional issues.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify and support students in need of additional assistance.
• Develop and implement counseling programs and workshops that promote social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional awareness.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student needs and resources available.
• Participate in student support team meetings and contribute to the development of intervention plans.
• Assist in crisis intervention and provide support during emergencies.
• Facilitate referrals to outside agencies for additional support when necessary.
• Promote a positive school climate through various initiatives and activities.
• Stay current on best practices in school counseling and participate in professional development opportunities.

• Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
• Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor.
• Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a school setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
• Knowledge of counseling techniques and best practices for supporting diverse student populations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the school community.
