Primary Purpose/Scope

The Primary purpose of the Graduate Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach is to assist in promoting a track program that is in harmony with the Christian principles of Bluefield University. The Graduate Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach gives direction to the athletes within the Women’s Volleyball program, while fostering and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, And Functions
  • Teaching/Coaching (50%):
  • Assists in the organization and implementation of practice sessions with student‑athletes.
  • Instructs and coaches student‑athletes on how to perform for track meets and during practice.
  • Provides tutoring and mentoring of athletes involved in the program.
  • Monitors and supervises student‑athletes during practice and while traveling to ensure conduct reflects the mission of the University.
  • Departmental Administration (15%):
  • Promotes a Women’s Volleyball program that is supportive of Bluefield University’s mission.
  • Knows eligibility requirements and provides eligibility list of athletes.
  • Works with athletic training and medical health services.
  • Recruiting (25%):
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits potential team members to Bluefield University.
  • Possesses knowledge of eligibility requirements and maintains a roster of eligible athletes.
  • Retains current BU students as team members.
  • Ensures program meets annual membership requirements.
  • Ensures recruiting activities adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Public Relations (5%):
  • Reports results to media outlets and the Sports Information Director.
  • Recommends athletes for awards.
  • Other Duties (5%):
  • Provides reports and documentation when required by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and implements work while applying logic and creativity to solve problems and manage financial aspects.
  • Processes and provides visual and verbal information.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Education/Experience
  • Must support the Mission Statement and express a personal Christian commitment.
  • Preferred: a B.S. / B.A. degree in Business, Sports Management, or Exercise & Sports Science.
  • Must have a current and working knowledge of NAIA regulations.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate office equipment (modems, scanners, copy machines, typewriters, computers, faxes).
Ergonomic Requirements Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made. This position may require frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, lifting, and carrying. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag up to 50 pounds. Tasks include computer use involving extensive wrist and hand movements. The employee may operate vehicles and transport athletes at various times.

Use of specialized equipment typical in modern athletic facilities.

Working Conditions and Environment

Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors with noise levels usually low to moderate. Employees may be required to travel. Supervisors must maintain an environment free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion, or harassment, including sexual or gender harassment.

Performance Standards

This position is subject to at least an annual evaluation based on the job duties, responsibilities, and functions as set forth above.
