Description
Provides transportation to passengers along a designated route between the Colonial National Park Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and the American Revolution Museum vides information to passengers regarding the many attractions along the route including but not limited to operating hours and pricing of cruise ships, charters, tour bus, Colonial National Park Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center, American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and the many restaurants along the route.
- Operate a trolley bus over established routes, provide transportation to passengers, and point out various attractions along the route; provide information about the attractions.
- Assist passengers getting in and out of the trolley.
- Inspect the vehicle prior to daily operations for maintenance discrepancies.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the trolley, both inside and outside.
- Operate various pieces of technology located on the trolley.
- Refuel and perform common preventive maintenance checks such as checking fluid levels (oil and other fluids) and tire pressure on the trolley daily.
- Maintain a record log of passengers, mileage, fuel use, and any other related data as needed.
- Report vehicle maintenance problems to supervisor.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, and some experience driving vehicles ranging from 15-passenger vans to 50-passenger trolley buses used to transport passengers.
- Requires a Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License with a minimum of Class B, and a P endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months from hire date.
- Incumbent must be able to operate a vehicle with air brakes.
- This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history, background and DMV record checks.
- Prior experience as a school bus driver or public transit operator preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of highway operating rules and procedures.
- General knowledge of the Yorktown area and the ability to provide directions to local points of interest.
- Skill in operating all vehicle types from 15-passenger van buses to 50-passenger trolley buses; strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate using a two-way radio and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work with people of all ages and to effectively resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Ability to perform the pre-and-post-maintenance activities required of Trolley Drivers and to provide information and narrative while transporting passengers.
- The Trolley operates daily from March through the end of October, with select dates offered in November through February.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends, holidays and occasional evenings in support of special events; must be able to work a minimum six-hour shift.
- Must be physically able to sit in and operate a 50-passenger trolley bus; job involves walking, standing, stooping, bending, and occasional pushing/pulling of passengers in wheelchairs and equipment.

The job involves walking, standing, stooping, and bending while performing the pre-trip inspection, and when cleaning the trolley. Gripping the steering wheel is essential while driving the trolley. Some climbing is required up the steps into the trolley. There is pushing and pulling of passengers in wheelchairs occasionally, and pushing and pulling while cleaning the equipment, and pushing of buttons on the passenger counter.
