School Bus Driver

POSITION TITLE: School Bus Driver
FLSA: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:- Possess valid driver’s license with a minimum of Learner's CDL license.
- A good driving record and the ability to drive school bus.
- Current TB test.
- Ability to read and communicate.
- Ability to follow instructions and take initiative in performance of assigned tasks.
- Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist, and squat.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contracted for a total 182 days (180 school days and 2 bus driver meetings)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- To conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects and post-trip inspection after every trip.
- To use established routes and designated bus stops.
- To operate bus on approved time schedule.
- To report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities or as directed.
- To conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with the school division regulations.
- To instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers.
- To drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- To drive with safety of students as first priority.
- To report personal absences in time for Supervisor to secure substitute driver.
- To perform bus housekeeping duties inside and out.
- To maintain proper fuel level and monitor all gauges.
- To report bus defects to Supervisor.
- To establish favorable working relationships with all other personnel.
- To exhibit positive image as a representative of the school division.
- To demonstrate knowledge of county and state vehicular laws.
- To administer disciplinary procedures in keeping with school board policies and administrative regulations.
- To be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles, and irregular special request by parents or riders.
- To comply with dress code.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
