Job DescriptionTo transport students safely, efficiently and economically to and from school on a daily basis and to extracurricular events on a non-regular basis. Transport students to and from school following state and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects.
- Use established routes and designated bus stops.
- Operate bus on approved time schedule.
- Conduct emergency evaluation drills in keeping with division regulations.
- Instruct riders regarding responsible passenger conduct.
- Report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities.
- Drive safely with students as the first priority.
- Perform bus housekeeping duties inside and out.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state and federal authorities.
- Demonstrate ability to deal with youthful riders’ behavioral characteristics.
- Administer disciplinary procedures in keeping with school board policies and administrative regulations.
- Comply with the appropriate dress code.
Education: Valid Virginia Driver’s License (Required). GED or High School Diploma (Required). Hold or obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License with required endorsements (training provided).
Experience/
Skills:
Ability to communicate professionally with administration, staff, and the public; knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to transportation of students; ability to operate radio communication when necessary; ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students.
Additional Requirements: Meet school bus driver certification requirements; meet state and local licensing and examination requirements; meet state physical examination requirements; pass National Red Cross First Aid Course.

Physical DemandsRegularly sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently talk or hear, taste or smell. Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus vision.
Work EnvironmentFrequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Noise level usually loud.
Terms of Employment10 month contract. Terms may vary based on the needs of the schools and division.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
