Job Title: Bus Driver (PT/Salaried)

Period of Employment: 10 Month

Pay Type:

• Routine Route (AM/PM); $106.73 per day
• Additional pay opportunities for extra routes during and after school (i.e., field trips, athletic games, etc.)
• Paid Sick Time

Transports Colonial Beach Public Schools students. May also be asked to assist with field trips.

• Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with the school bus passenger and air brake endorsements.
• Must be able to operate both manual and automatic transmissions.
• Must present a current DMV transcript of driver history (issued within the past 30 days).
• Must possess a current School Bus Driver's Physician's Certificate.
• Must consent to a background check.
• Reports to Coordinator of Transportation Services

• Drive a school bus; pick up and deliver students to and from school.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections according to the Virginia Department of Education (8
  
  VAC
  20 – 70-380) guidelines.
• Maintain safety equipment; report unsafe bus conditions.
• Adhere to the preventive maintenance schedule.
• Complete required forms and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
• Comply with safety rules, motoring regulations, and laws.
• Load bus according to established procedures, follow the designated route schedule, and stop at authorized stops only.
• Notify supervisor(s) of bus breakdowns or deviations in the schedule.
• Ensure all pupils are accounted for and all runs are covered.
• Report all operating and equipment deficiencies.
• Clean bus inside and out; fuel bus as required.
• Obey all traffic laws and observe mandatory safety regulations for school bus operations.
• Transport only authorized students.
• Report all accidents and complete required reports.
• Transport students to special events and field trips.
• Ensure passenger safety; maintain discipline on bus.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested.

Duties are performed on a school bus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noise levels, fumes or airborne particles, noxious odors, vibrations from driving a bus, and traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;

use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb; bend, stoop, and kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures, including the pushing/pulling of up to 50 pounds. The employee must have the ability to use emergency exits at any location on the bus. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
