Position Summary
New Day Recovery (NDR) is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Transportation Technician to provide reliable transportation for patients accessing treatment, recovery, and supportive services. This position will be based from our NDR Saltville location but will be responsible for travel between all New Day Recovery sites. This position is also responsible for coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs for NDR vehicles, maintaining vehicle documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent driving skills, sound judgment, strong time-management abilities, respect for patient confidentiality, and a commitment to supporting individuals receiving substance use disorder treatment and recovery services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient and Staff Transportation- Safely and efficiently transport patients and staff to treatment, recovery, and related services.
- Provide timely patient pickup and delivery while maintaining a professional, respectful, and supportive environment.
- Plan transportation routes by accurately estimating travel time and distance.
- Use GPS navigation systems and read maps when GPS navigation is unavailable.
- Coordinate transportation schedules and services with the NDR Community of Hope and the Community of Hope Coordinator.
- Communicate promptly regarding delays, scheduling conflicts, vehicle concerns, or other transportation-related issues.
- Follow all traffic laws, safe-driving practices, and NDR transportation policies and procedures.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs for all NDR vehicles.
- Ensure vehicle registrations, license plates, inspections, and other required documentation remain current.
- Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and local vehicle regulations.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks and promptly report safety concerns, mechanical problems, damage, or needed repairs.
- Complete routine maintenance and minor vehicle repairs within the employee’s training, experience, and authorized scope.
- Coordinate service with qualified repair providers when maintenance or repairs require specialized expertise.
- Help ensure vehicles are clean, safe, properly equipped, and ready for service.
- Maintain complete and accurate transportation logs, mileage records, maintenance schedules, repair records, inspection documentation, and other required vehicle records.
- Document transportation services accurately and within required time frames.
- Protect patient information and comply with HIPAA, organizational confidentiality requirements, and all applicable privacy laws.
- Maintain professional boundaries and safeguard sensitive information learned while transporting patients.
- Report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, safety concerns, and policy violations promptly and according to established procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support patient services and organizational operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to meet organizational and automobile insurance eligibility requirements.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and the ability to perform minor repairs within demonstrated competency.
- Ability to use GPS navigation systems and read maps.
- Ability to maintain accurate written and electronic records.
- Ability to communicate professionally with patients, staff, service providers, and community partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact respectfully with individuals receiving substance use disorder treatment and recovery services.
- Dependable attendance and the flexibility to respond to transportation needs.
- Previous experience providing patient, medical, community, or human-services transportation.
- Experience coordinating fleet maintenance, vehicle inspections, or automotive repairs.
- Experience working in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, healthcare, recovery services, or a related setting.
