Sequoias Community College District serves a diverse community of learners and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution. The district offers a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, career, and technical programs. This full‑time, tenure‑track position begins August 2026 and reports to the Director, Access and Ability Center. Assignments may include evening and weekend counseling at any Sequoias campuses (Visalia, Hanford, Tulare).

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Providing academic, transfer, and career counseling to students with disabilities, including educational, vocational, and personal counseling appointments, orientation sessions, and interpretation of standardized tests for placement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Determining program eligibility and accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Implementing outreach, workshops, and educational planning services.
  • Providing academic, career/vocational, and personal counseling.
  • Assisting students in resolving issues related to disability management.
  • Interpreting assessments and academic evaluations for student planning.
  • Providing counseling to Career Technical Education (CTE) and transfer‑bound students.
  • Providing counseling to students at the basic skills level.
  • Teaching counseling and guidance classes for students with disabilities.
  • Guiding staff and faculty on ADA requirements and student disabilities.
  • Participating in division and department meetings and work groups that develop student support services.
  • Attending faculty and college meetings, curriculum and program development activities.
  • Developing and participating in program planning, evaluation, and improvement.
  • Developing curriculum and supporting revisions including Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Student Area Outcomes (SAOs).
  • Participating in professional activities such as committee work, peer evaluations, and governance.
  • Conducting professional outreach to faculty, administrators, high schools, community agencies, and industry partners.
  • Maintaining clear, timely, and accurate contact notes and student records.
  • Pursuing professional development opportunities.
  • Traveling to various college sites and community agencies as needed.
  • Working cooperatively with colleagues and maintaining collegial relationships.
  • Exhibiting effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining office hours, active engagement with campus culture, departmental duties, and fostering an equitable atmosphere respectful of district‑wide diversity.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree or equivalent foreign degree in rehabilitation counseling.
  • OR possession of a Master’s Degree or equivalent foreign degree in special education AND 24 or more upper‑division or graduate coursework units in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, or social work.
  • OR possession of a Master’s Degree in counseling guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare AND (1) twelve or more upper‑division graduate units in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities; OR (2) two years of full‑time experience in counseling or guidance for students with disabilities.
