The City of Visalia is recruiting for a Professional Land Surveyor. This position is open until filled.
PositionThe selected candidate will perform duties under the Subdivision Map Act as City Surveyor, conduct complex surveys (topographic, construction staking, monument preservation, boundary/right of way surveys), provide mapping services, and lead survey and CADD personnel administratively and technically. The candidate will coordinate survey crews and CADD staff to meet project schedules, resolve difficult survey issues, certify final subdivision/parcel maps, prepare and review legal descriptions and exhibits for real property transactions, and approve surveys associated with lot line adjustments and annexations.
The candidate will work hands‑on in all daily tasks and collaborate with other departments and divisions.
The ideal candidate has a high level of professionalism and competency in surveying, boundary surveys, and mapping. Experience includes reviewing parcel, tentative, and final maps; preparing legal descriptions and exhibits for rights‑of‑way acquisitions, easements, lease sites, surplus property sales, and final title report approvals. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble processing software is required. Desired qualities include excellent customer service, supervisory skills, a track record of coordinating survey crews, sound judgment, integrity, organizational skills, and strong communication with coworkers, supervisors, support staff, and outside stakeholders.
A municipal engineering background enabling effective survey services for construction of infrastructure such as storm water, basins, sanitary sewer, pavement, traffic, utilities, trails, parks, ADA compliance, and municipal buildings is highly desirable. Knowledge of municipal procurement, state and federal requirements, and local government policy and procedures is also desirable.
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skill, and ability is qualifying. Typical qualifications include:
- Five (5) years of technical and professional surveying experience.
- Current registration by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as a Professional Land Surveyor, or current registration as a Civil Engineer issued prior to 1982 substitutable for Land Surveyor registration.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver’s License.
Monthly Salary: $9,434–$11,860
