Current vacancy is with the Solid Waste Department located in Visalia.
Typical Duties- Deal with the public in a friendly and courteous manner when giving information, directions and collecting fees.
- Determine disposal charges based on materials, weight, volume and type of vehicle.
- Measure vehicles and calculate volume and load amounts.
- Weigh loads using a digital electronic scale.
- Collect fees, issue receipts and balance daily cash.
- May assist with training employees in cash handling processes and the use of the County Waste Management software application.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time paid experience equivalent to a Refuse Site Attendant. OR two (2) years increasingly responsible experience involving the collection of money and dealing with the public.
Knowledge of:
Basic math sufficient to compute volume and fees accurately. Security precautions pertaining to collection of money. Simple record keeping methods. Basic computer usage.
Skill/Ability to:
Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Read, understand and follow rules and instructions. Appropriately enforce rules and regulation. Provide clear and concise instructions. Complete assigned job duties in a timely and complete manner.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions. An Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some positions. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
