Nurse - Public Health Lead

The Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is currently recruiting a Public Health Lead Nurse to join the Public Health Branch. The Public Health Branch protects and promotes the health status of Tulare County residents through the development and implementation of public health and primary care programs that use best‑practice interventions.

Incumbents will oversee and assist nursing professionals and support staff. They will communicate effectively with patients, families, program partners, and providers, work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting, and possess an understanding of immunization, communicable diseases, HIV, tuberculosis, maternal, child, and adolescent health, and community health nursing. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the Public Health Branch and other organizations, coordinate with other professionals to assess family needs and make referrals to community resources, and provide services to diverse populations.

• Assist in providing training and orientation to staff.
• Instruct other nursing personnel and volunteers in their assignments.
• Compile and use records, reports, and statistical information for appraisal and planning of assigned duties.
• Assist in the development and planning of public health programs.
• Assist in the coordination of special projects and grants by completing necessary reports, assisting in writing grants, and communicating with State and Federal agencies.
• Act as liaison between the health department and other individuals or organizations and attend meetings and trainings.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved nursing program.
• Two years of community nursing experience.
• Possession of a California State Public Health Nursing Certificate.
• Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse License issued by the California State Board of Nurse Registry.

• Case management experience and experience as a lead or supervisor.
• Knowledge of diseases afflicting the elderly and familiarity with the needs of and resources available to the elderly.
• Knowledge of communicable diseases, including HIV.

• Required pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening; background investigation may be conducted, including re‑investigation every 10 years for some positions.

• Some job classes may require a physical exam.
• Driving positions require a valid California driver’s license.
