Position: Maintenance Technician (1005)

Maintenance Technician

Location:

Visalia, CA

Hourly Rate: $25-$37

Reports To:

Maintenance Manager

Shift(s) Available: 2nd (3:00pm-11:30pm) & 3rd shift (11:00pm-7:30am M-F)

Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance work on converting, printing, and extruding equipment and various other ancillary equipment, as well as general repairs to building and grounds.

  • Emphasis on safe work practices and familiarity with safety procedures.
  • Good analytical skills and sense of urgency to complete work.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical/electronic systems and control circuits; solve mechanical problems; repair and replace faulty components or parts; install new machines and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, maintain parts and supplies inventories.
  • Perform reactionary maintenance when equipment goes down.
  • Plan and carry out tasks associated with special projects on existing or new equipment or facilities and manage projects assigned.
  • Source products and materials and obtain pricing for maintenance purchases; maintain parts inventories.
  • Perform most types of tool & die and fixture jobs.
  • Miscellaneous duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; prior experience in machine repair and maintenance or a technically oriented position desired.
  • Welding/fabricating.
  • Machining, lathes, and mills.
  • Understanding of machine control systems and electrical schematics.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Use Office software and enter work orders in CMMS.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands
  • Standing, walking, climbing and balancing over 2/3rd of work time.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling under 1/3rd of work time.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and working near moving mechanical parts (2/3rd of work time).
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals; work in high, precarious places under 1/3rd of work time.
  • Risk of electrical shock (1/3rd to 2/3rd of work time).
  • Vibration under 1/3rd of work time.
  • Noisy work environment (loud). Example: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment.
  • Exposure to continuously operating extruding machines and related equipment.
