The purpose of this position is to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing diagnosis and treatment. The nurse demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting, overseeing an interdisciplinary health care team to provide holistic care and advocate for patients and families.

Qualifications- License/Certification
Required:
California RN license; BLS required. - Preferred Education:
BSN, MSN, or current enrollment in an RN‑BSN program.
- Practice guided by the Code of Ethics and professional standards.
- Display values by treating everyone respectfully and interacting professionally with co‑workers.
- Identify high‑risk patients and initiate interventions in collaboration with ancillary departments.
- Make ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients or residents, maintaining confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters.
- Act as a patient/resident advocate, assisting patients in developing self‑advocacy skills.
- Deliver care in a non‑judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that preserves autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Utilize the nursing process, demonstrated through direct observation, peer reviews, audits, and documentation. Successful completion of Physical Assessment validation required.
- Use quality of care and performance improvement activities to initiate changes in practice.
- Collect and monitor clinical data to evaluate nursing care effectiveness.
- Identify aspects of care important for quality monitoring and recommend improvements.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to enhance quality of care.
- Participate on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice related to patient care.
- Engage in quality improvement studies, serving on task forces or committees, and implement suggested improvements per unit study results.
- Identify problematic areas and recommend problem‑solving strategies.
- Share findings from studies and audits with others, seeking independent improvement.
- Collaborate and communicate with patients/residents, families, and other health care providers.
- Utilize peer review and observation, monitoring documentation for appropriate referrals.
- Formulate patient or resident plans of care, involving them in decisions related to care delivery.
- Make referrals, including continuity of care provisions, as needed.
- Primary clinical resource for assigned unit staff.
- Role model and mentor, providing leadership and support for staff through effective problem solving and decision making.
- Acts as the Nurse Manager representative in their absence.
- Supports nurse preceptors and new employees during orientation.
- Provides input on employee evaluations and ensures float staff receive orientation.
- Manages staff and patient flow: adjusts staff assignments based on staff abilities and patient needs.
- Coordinates admissions and transfers with the Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, and/or Bed Coordinator.
- Ensures shift reports start on time, monitors breaks, and determines staffing needs for the next shift.
- Assigns staff to ensure equipment checks (PCX controls, crash cart, refrigerator temps, red books, narcotic counts) are completed.
- Coordinates care in high‑risk or emergent situations and keeps leadership aware of critical patients and unit issues.
- Ensures collaboration among staff, physicians, and other providers, maintaining open communication lines.
- Documents and reports patient care issues, ensuring statements of concern are completed by the appropriate nurse.
