Position: Student Nurse Intern- Medical/ Surgical 3N

Overview

Work Shift

Day - 12 hour shift (United States of America)

Qualifications
  • BLS license/certification required; current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
  • Education:

    ASN – enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of 3rd semester; BSN – enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of 4th semester. Employee must submit an updated transcript to HR each term and notify manager and HR of any changes in nursing‑program enrollment.
  • Work study course required only if the nursing student is seeking course credit for the learning experience or during the summer when the nursing program is not in session.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and communicate with patients, families and other health‑care providers.
  • In conjunction with the RN, formulate the plan of care and involve patients in decisions related to care and delivery services.
  • Practice governed by the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain a validated skills checklist at all times while working as a student nurse intern (SNI).
  • Perform duties only after skills have been validated by the school of nursing in conjunction with the KH RN preceptor; students must bring the skills checklist to school for completion.
  • Work under the supervision of a KH RN preceptor.
  • Perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures as directed by the RN.
  • When skills are validated for independent performance, still require RN presence for admitting oral or injectable medication, initiating intravenous therapy, adjusting rates, IV medication administration, and taking orders from physicians.
  • Upon completion of Kaweah Health unit‑specific competencies: report any variance in the patient’s condition to licensed staff; report specific patient or family needs, concerns, and changes in activity; refer complaints and problems to licensed staff or department manager immediately; answer patient call lights within two minutes; greet patients and family members, identify self by name and job category; assist patients with their needs;

    actively participate in achieving quality patient care; maintain confidentiality; comply with current policies and procedures including safety and infection control; perform tasks safely; keep required certifications current; assist nursing staff with delegated tasks; provide toilet assistance; report changes in output to RN; assist with admission, transfer, and discharge; orient patients to room; assist with meals, snacks, and water; assist with activities of daily living;

    collect and record intake and output, weight, height, and vital signs as delegated by the RN; collect respiratory rate; document all care in the EMR as soon as possible; collect, label, and deliver specimens; provide post‑mortem care and assist in transporting the body to the morgue; assist with emergency care by participating in crash cart checks, providing CPR, and responding to Code Blue;

    handle personal property with care; maintain a professional appearance and uniform requirements; demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the population served; be knowledgeable of growth and development for all patients/families, cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age‑specific needs; communicate effectively; perform other duties as assigned.

$24.00 – $24.00
