Position

Team Leader – Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) – 6030 – Variable 12‑Hour Shift (United States of America)

Responsibilities
  • The nurse's practice is guided by the Code of Ethics.

  • Identifies high‑risk patients and initiates intervention with ancillary departments; makes ethical decisions on behalf of patients/residents.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters.
  • Acts as patient/resident advocate and assists patients/residents in developing self‑advocacy skills.
  • Delivers care in a non‑judgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Utilizes nursing process – assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation – as assessed by direct observation, peer reviews, audits, and documentation.
  • Uses quality‑of‑care and performance‑improvement data to initiate changes in nursing practice: collects clinical data to monitor quality and effectiveness of care.
  • Identifies aspects of care important for quality monitoring and formulates recommendations to improve nursing practice or patient/resident outcomes.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to improve quality of care and nursing practice.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice or health services related to patient/resident care.
  • Participates in QI studies as part of task forces or committees.
  • Implements suggestions for improving outcomes based on unit study results.
  • Independently identifies problematic areas and recommends problem‑solving strategies.
  • Shares findings of studies and audits with others.
  • Seeks improvement independently.
  • Collaborates and communicates with patients/residents, families, and other health‑care providers.
  • Utilizes peer review and observation.
  • Monitors documentation for appropriate referrals; formulates the plan of care and involves patients/residents in care decisions.
  • Makes referrals, including provisions for continuity of care, as needed.
Team Leader Responsibilities
  • Primary clinical resource for staff on the unit.
  • Role model and mentor for staff.
  • Acts as the Nurse Manager representative in absence.
  • Provides leadership and support for staff through effective problem solving and decision making.
  • Provides guidance and support for nurse preceptors and new employees during orientation; contributes to employee evaluations.
  • Assures float staff receive orientation to the floor and feel welcome.
  • Manages staff and patient flow: creates and adjusts staff assignments based on staff abilities and patient needs.
  • Assigns admissions and arranges transfers in coordination with the Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, and/or Bed Coordinator.
  • Ensures shift report starts on time and monitors breaks to maintain adequate staffing.
  • Determines staffing needs for the next shift and communicates those needs to the Staff Facilitator or Nursing Supervisor.
  • Assigns staff to ensure equipment checks are completed (PCX controls, crash cart, refrigerator temperatures, red books, narcotic counts).
  • Coordinates care in high‑risk or emergent situations and keeps leadership aware of critical patients and unit issues.
  • Ensures collaboration among staff, physicians, other providers, and departments involved in patient care.
  • Maintains open lines of communication and documents patient‑care issues for reporting.
  • Assures the appropriate nurse completes a Statement of Concern.
  • Understands and utilizes the medical staff and Kaweah Health chain of command.
  • Provides employee guidance and alerts the Nurse Manager of counseling needs.
  • Provides patient care as needed.
  • Makes fiscally responsible decisions regarding staffing and use of patient supplies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for the unit’s population, including cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age‑specific needs.
  • Effectively communicates and cares for patients and families as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • CA Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS and ACLS certification within one year of hire or transfer.
  • Preferred education:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or enrollment in an RN‑BSN program.
Pay Range

$46.44 – $69.66 per hour.
