Qualifications

Minimum of two years recent clinical experience and/or experience as an RN educator. - Preferred:
Experience in nursing education, staff development, curriculum development, and implementation of multifaceted teaching interventions to varying adult learning styles. - Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to present formal and informal educational offerings. - Department Specific Requirements
- If assigned to Administration-APN:
Two years of recent clinical experience must be as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting; CA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) within three years of date of hire/transfer. - If assigned to Skilled Nursing:
Must meet state and federal requirements for designation as a State of California Director of Staff Development (DSD) within two years of hire/transfer;
Minimum of one year experience as a licensed nurse in a long‑term care/skilled nursing facility and minimum of one year experience in planning and evaluating educational programs for nursing.
- If assigned to Administration-APN:
- Collaborate with department leadership and Director of Clinical Education to ensure staff competency.
- Provide ongoing assessment of learning needs for all staff members.
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate educational programs and conduct annual needs assessments.
- Develop and implement department orientation for all staff members.
- Provide a written orientation plan and skills checklist for each new employee.
- Collaborate with management to schedule new staff with mentor/preceptor, communicating learner’s needs and goals.
- Provide input to manager for employee introductory and/or annual review.
- Identify need for in‑service training and continuing education through annual needs assessments, observation, performance improvement (PI), risk management reports, professional practice trends, and patient population insights.
- Develop training programs to ensure staff competence for changes or new procedures.
- Monitor staff competence.
- Provide competency assessment records and educational calendar to Human Resources as appropriate.
- Maintain records, files, and statistics as appropriate.
- Submit information to Director of Clinical Education as requested.
- Review and update reference materials for staff, patients, and physicians as appropriate.
- Coordinate development and/or revision of new standards, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct annual educational needs assessments for assigned unit(s).
- Provide a monthly in‑service topic and additional Kaweah Health educational training to department staff as needed.
- Maintain clinical competence in area of specialty.
- Provide direct patient care as assigned.
- Promote a positive working relationship with physicians, colleagues, vendors, guests, and others.
- Collaborate with Director of Clinical Education and/or area director and managers as appropriate.
- Direct and provide patient care including medication administration, tracheotomy care, tube feeding, admission and discharge of patients, care planning, and ongoing nursing assessment.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate continuing education courses and in‑service education.
- Review and revise orientation tools for newly hired staff members.
- Organize, develop, and evaluate orientation plans for newly hired staff members.
- Provide ongoing education to staff members based upon learning needs assessment.
- Participate in assigned intradepartmental and Kaweah Health‑wide committees.
- Coordinate department meetings as appropriate.
- Actively participate in planning and implementation of the annual competency fair.
- Participate/coordinate PI projects as directed.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
- Be knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age‑specific needs.
- Communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $51.22 – $76.84
