Position Summary
Provide 24/7 oversight of efficient operations to meet the holistic needs of patients and families served.
Qualifications- CA Registered Nurse license required.
- BLS and ACLS certifications within one year of hire/transfer.
- Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer.
- Education preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. - Experience preferred:
Clinical area expertise and supervisory experience. - Excellent written and oral communication skills; effective interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and creative problem‑solving.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Joint Commission standards, California’s Nursing Practice Act, Title 22 and 17, federal guidelines, HIPAA, and national care standards.
- Have 24‑hour responsibility for quality of care and performance improvement activities in the area of supervision.
- Organize patient care and service in collaboration with the Director and according to the unit plan for patient care.
- Utilize expert knowledge and skills in nursing practice and assist staff with clinical assessment and decision‑making.
- Respond to unexpected staff shortages by maximizing resources and prioritizing patient care needs.
- Understand principles of utilization and case management.
- Ensure patient care needs are met promptly and coordinated across the continuum of services and sites.
- Coordinate and participate in patient discharge and planning rounds.
- Provide excellent service by being aware of medical providers’ needs and preferences.
- Monitor patients daily through rounds and feedback.
- Monitor patient documentation for adequacy and regulatory compliance.
- Report patient care issues using the Statement of Concern process.
- Use patient satisfaction data to improve care and service.
- Know and utilize the Medical Staff and Kaweah Health chains of command.
- Assess and document competency of each staff member hired for supervised areas.
- Collaborate with the Educator on orientations for new staff.
- Evaluate staff annually and complete performance appraisals within 30 days of the due date.
- Identify performance or educational issues through observation and patient outcome monitoring, and promptly communicate concerns.
- Use research findings in developing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines for patient care.
- Share research information with colleagues.
- Assess float staff and determine minimal competencies for floated staff in supervised areas.
- Utilize HR policies and procedures to ensure Kaweah Health employment standards are met.
- Provide adequate staff resources for the unit plan of care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of patient classification tools and Title 22 classification requirements.
- Use the patient classification tool to direct staffing and hold staff accountable for its use.
- Prepare staff schedules that meet patient population needs and average daily census.
- Interview and hire new employees.
- Lead staff attraction and appreciation efforts.
- Support staff development by ensuring continuing education and in‑services are available.
- Communicate effectively with key constituencies—patients, physicians, staff, and other departments/units—seeking and listening to feedback.
- Coordinate with other patient‑care leaders and Nurse Managers, Bed Managers, and Staffing Facilitators to align resources.
- Actively participate in assigned meetings and projects.
- Respond promptly to communication from others and use e‑mail responsibly.
- Coordinate patient care services between departments and disciplines.
- Practice guided by the Code for Nurses, ensuring ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients and staff.
- Maintain patient confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters.
- Advocate for patients and coach/mentor staff in patient advocacy.
- Model non‑judgmental, nondiscriminatory care that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Demonstrate skills for providing appropriate care to the population served on the assigned unit.
- Be knowledgeable of growth, development, cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age‑specific needs for patients and families.
- Effectively communicate and care for patients and families as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
Work Shift:
Day – 8 hour or less (United States of America). Department: 6150 M/S Cardiac‑2N.
Pay Range: $59.92 – $89.88 per hour.
