Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing diagnosis and treatment. The nurse demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting through oversight of an interdisciplinary health‑care team, provides holistic care, and advocates for patients and families served.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct nursing practice guided by the Code of Ethics and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate respectful professional behavior and treat all coworkers, patients, and families with dignity.
  • Identify high‑risk patients and initiate appropriate interventions with ancillary departments.
  • Make decisions and actions on behalf of patients or residents in an ethical manner while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Act as a patient or resident advocate and teach patients skills to self‑advocate.
  • Deliver care that is non‑judgmental, nondiscriminatory, and preserves patient autonomy and rights.
  • Operate the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collect, monitor, and use clinical data to assess quality and effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Identify areas of care important for quality monitoring, and recommend changes to improve outcomes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams evaluating clinical practice or health services for patient care.
  • Engage in quality‑improvement studies, task forces, or committees and implement study findings.
  • Collaborate and communicate with patients, families, and other health‑care providers.
  • Monitor documentation for appropriate referrals and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Formulate and involve patients or residents in decisions related to the plan of care.
  • Make referrals and coordinate continuity of care as needed.
Team Leader Responsibilities
  • Primary clinical resource for staff on the assigned unit.
  • Role model and mentor; provides leadership and support through problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Acts as the Nurse Manager Representative in the manager’s absence.
  • Supports nurse preceptors and new employees during orientation.
  • Provides input on employee evaluations and ensures float staff receive orientation.
  • Manages staff allocation and patient flow, adjusts assignments based on staffing and patient needs.
  • Coordinates admissions, transfers, and shift reports with Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, and Bed Coordinator.
  • Monitors breaks and staffing needs for the next shift, communicating requirements to the Staff Facilitator or Nursing Supervisor.
  • Assigns staff to ensure completion of equipment checks (PCX controls, crash cart, refrigerator temperatures, red books, narcotic counts).
  • Coordinates care in high‑risk or emergent situations and informs the Nurse Manager or Supervisor of critical patients or unit issues.
  • Ensures collaboration between staff, physicians, other providers, and departments involved in patient care.
  • Maintains open lines of communication and documents/report patient care issues.
  • Ensures appropriate nurse completes a Statement of Concern.
  • Provides employee guidance and alerts the Nurse Manager of counseling needs.
  • Provides patient care as needed and makes fiscally responsible staffing and supply decisions.
Infusion Center Responsibilities
  • Assign patients to infusion chairs and initiate nursing intake.
  • Educate patients on upcoming medications and therapies.
  • Start peripheral IVs or central venous access devices (PICC, Port‑a‑Cath) and administer infusions per physician orders.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient status throughout treatment.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and obtain patient history.
  • Administer medications (IV, IM, SQ, PO), IV hydration, blood transfusions, and dressing changes.
