The purpose of this position is to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing diagnosis and treatment. The nurse demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting through oversight of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide holistic care and advocate for patients and families served.
Qualifications- CA RN license (required)
- BLS (required)
- Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer (required)
- BSN, MSN, or currently enrolled in an RN‑BSN program (preferred)
- Practice guided by the Code of Ethics and professional behavior including interactions with co‑workers.
- Display values; treat everyone respectfully.
- Identify high‑risk patients and initiate intervention of ancillary department.
- Make decisions and actions on behalf of patients/residents in an ethical manner.
- Maintain patient confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters.
- Act as patient/resident advocate and assist patients/residents in developing self‑advocacy skills.
- Deliver care in a non‑judgmental and non‑discriminatory manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Utilize the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) and incorporate quality‑of‑care/performance‑improvement data to initiate changes in practice.
- Collect clinical data to monitor the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and formulate recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to improve quality of care and nursing practice.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice or health services relating to patient/resident care.
- Participate in QI studies, task forces, or committees; implement suggestions for improving outcomes per unit study results.
- Independently identify problematic areas, recommend problem‑solving strategies, and share findings with others.
- Collaborate and communicate with patients, families, and other health care providers; utilize peer review and observation.
- Monitor documentation for appropriate referrals, formulate the plan of care, and involve patients/residents in decisions related to care and service delivery.
- Make referrals, including provisions for continuity of care, as needed.

- Serve as the primary clinical resource and role model for staff on the assigned unit.
- Act as the Nurse Manager Representative in absence.
- Provide leadership and support to staff through effective problem solving and decision making.
- Support staff preceptors and new employees during orientation; provide input on employee evaluations.
- Ensure float staff receive orientation and feel welcome.
- Manage staff and patient flow (shift assignments, admissions, transfers, shift reports, break monitoring).
- Make staffing decisions and communicate needs to the Staff Facilitator or Nursing Supervisor.
- Assign staff to ensure completion of equipment checks (PCX controls, crash cart, refrigerator temperatures, red books, narcotic counts).
- Coordinate care in high‑risk/emergent situations and keep nursing leadership aware of critical patients and unit issues.
- Ensure collaboration between staff, physicians, and other providers; maintain open communication lines.
- Document and report patient care issues; ensure appropriate completion of Statements of Concern.
- Understand and utilize the Medical Staff and Kaweah Health’s chain of command; provide employee guidance and alert leadership of counseling needs.
