Field Tech - Intern

Overview

The Field Tech Intern is expected to perform service, test, and maintain various types of power distribution equipment while assisting Techs with measurements, equipment set up, removal, site set up, and site cleanup.

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems.
• MCCs, breakers and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering. Test and calibrate electro‑mechanical and solid‑state relay.
• Low, medium and high voltage switch gear and circuit breaker testing. Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies timely.
• Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers and all related equipment – 45 kVA to 130 MVA, dry type and oil‑filled.
• Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – low voltage 480 V (molded case and air‑magnetic). May be performed in location’s shop (if applicable) or customer site.
• Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – medium voltage up to 15 kV (air‑magnetic and vacuum). May be performed in location’s shop (if applicable) or customer site.
• Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
• Perform start‑up, troubleshooting and repair services on generator controls and transfer schemes.
• Work will require flexible hours, weekends and holidays. Must be available for out‑of‑town work.
• All work and decisions conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.
• Other duties and tasks as assigned.

• High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field or currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar coursework.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA.
• Preferred experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start‑up on switch gear up through 500 kV.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
• Good theoretical understanding of electricity and aptitude for problem solving.
• Effective verbal and written communication with customers and peers.
• Dependable, responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
• Good customer service, time‑management and follow‑up skills.
• Ability to work effectively with customers, peers and management to resolve client issues.
• Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office; use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research.
• Valid driver’s license required if positions utilize a company vehicle.

• Job: Full‑Time – Temporary Assignment
• Location: Visalia, CA
• Travel: up to 100%
• Compensation: $25 to $30 per hour, eligible for overtime. Daily meal and incidentals per diem available when traveling for overnight work.
• Relocation: Assistance available for highly qualified candidates.
• Benefits: Not available for this role.
• Physical Demands: Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs daily, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods, and working in non‑ideal conditions.
