Job Overview
The Utility Worker / Relief Certified Pump Operator (UW/RCPO) will relieve the Certified Pump Operator (CPO) by operating, maintaining, and testing water supply equipment to ensure safe and efficient water distribution and treatment.
Essential Functions – Certified Pump Operator (CPO)- Operate wells, booster pumps, and other sources of water supply to maintain system flows, storage levels, and pressure.
- Record production data, operational changes, electrical use, chemical usage, and update change charts.
- Complete production reports and related paperwork.
- Collect water samples for laboratory analysis and regulatory reporting.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system failures and notify appropriate personnel.
- Operate distribution and treatment valves.
- Perform field analysis of water supply for chlorine, pH, temperature, and other required parameters; adjust treatment to meet regulations.
- Operate and perform maintenance and minor repairs on treatment, disinfection, and pumping equipment.
- Perform operational testing and basic inspections of all emergency standby power sources.
- Maintain and clean facilities.
- Perform relief work in various field operations classifications.
- Change and replace 5/8" through 1" size meters and meter boxes, and clean out meter boxes.
- Assist in flushing and maintenance of all mains and system valves.
- Assist in setting, replacing, or removing 1-1/2" and 2" size meters.
- Notify for shutdowns.
- Perform general maintenance of company facilities.
- Collect water samples to a minor extent.
- Adjust or replace meter boxes as needed.
- Work on site at the assigned location.
- Perform duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license and insurable under company policy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Basic mathematical skills for calculations.
- Reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Working knowledge of basic word processing (Microsoft Word) and email programs (Microsoft Outlook).
- California State Water Distribution Operator II certification is required.
- California State Water Treatment Operator II certification is required.
- Must live within 30 minutes of the district office (Visalia, CA).
- Work schedule:
5 days per week, 8 hours per day, Sunday through Thursday.
Step 1 – $42.11
Step 2 – $43.52 – 6 months
Step 3 – $44.07 – 12 months
Step 4 – $47.94 – 18 months
