ProfilePosition Summary
Visalia Transit is seeking part‑time Bus Drivers who are committed to providing safe, reliable, and friendly transportation services to our community. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy working with the public, prioritize safety, and take pride in representing their transit system professionally.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a front-line representative of Visalia Transit, delivering high‑quality customer service.
- Safely operate buses in light to heavy city and freeway conditions using sound judgment and defensive driving practices.
- Transport passengers safely and courteously according to assigned routes, making only designated stops unless otherwise directed by Dispatch.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws related to commercial vehicle operation, traffic safety, and passenger transportation.
- Assist all passengers in a courteous and professional manner, including those with disabilities or mobility needs.
- Safely operate and assist with wheelchair lifts and securement devices.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and follow all company policies and procedures to prevent accidents and incidents.
- Operate all onboard equipment efficiently, including farebox, radio, emergency equipment, hatches, and wheelchair lift.
- Conduct and document pre‑trip inspections in accordance with FMCSR requirements to ensure the vehicle is in safe working condition.
- Communicate route detours, incidents, and emergencies to Dispatch promptly and follow provided instructions.
- Make sound, independent decisions in the interest of safety and customer service.
- Follow procedures for fare collection, documentation, and passenger counting.
- Report all accidents, incidents, or unusual events immediately and follow proper reporting protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
. - Must hold a valid CDL A,
CDL B, or a CDL Permit at the time of application. - Must be able to pass a DOT Physical Examination
. - High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work part‑time hours, including possible weekends or split shifts based on operational needs.
- Starting Pay: $23.69 per hour
