Join Our Team as a Special Education Teacher
New Haven Youth & Family Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our school-based program serving at-risk youth with significant behavioral and learning needs.
This is a 225-day school year position.
This role is best suited for an educator who has experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities and who is comfortable in a structured, therapeutic, and highly collaborative school environment. You will deliver individualized instruction while working closely with clinical and support staff to ensure students receive consistent academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
What You’ll Do• Deliver individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals using direct instruction, small group, and project-based learning
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Common Core standards
• Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment using effective behavior management strategies
• Serve as case manager for assigned IEPs/ITPs and collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Track, document, and report student academic, behavioral, and attendance progress
• Supervise instructional aides and support staff to ensure consistent implementation of student plans
• Participate in team meetings, treatment planning, and school-wide programming
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (or eligibility to obtain) required
• CLAD Certification (or in progress) required or strongly preferred
• Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience preferred
• Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities required
• Strong classroom management and ability to engage high-needs student populations
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
• Comfortable working in a structured, team-based educational setting
• Proficient with basic computer systems (Word, Excel, student data systems)
• Valid California driver’s license and ability to pass required background and fingerprint clearances
