Manufacturing Engineer (Off-site Fabrication)
Proteus Homes is out to revolutionize the home building process and transform it into the enjoyable experience it should be. Drawing on 30+ years in the custom home and factory building industries, we have created a new way to build. Combining the craftsmanship of custom home building with the efficiency of panelized construction, we deliver homes in a fraction of the time it takes traditional on-site framing.
We Build Better, Faster.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer with a passion for transforming traditional construction through cutting edge proprietary methods. In this role, you will apply manufacturing rigor to our off-site fabrication processes, designing and optimizing patent pending systems to maximize efficiency, reduce material waste, and maintain top-tier structural quality. You will collaborate closely with structural designers, BIM modelers, and factory floor assembly teams to bridge the gap between our build teams and technical design details.
Key Responsibilities- Process Optimization :
Evaluate and streamline our design process for structural panels and prefabricated MEP assemblies using Lean principles. - DfMA Integration :
Collaborate with design teams to ensure architectural plans are optimized for Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA). - Equipment & Automation :
Design, specify, and integrate automated cutting systems, and future automated assembly machinery. - Troubleshooting :
Resolve factory floor technical bottlenecks, material handling issues, and fabrication discrepancies. - Documentation :
Write clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs) for the fabrication team. - Quality Assurance :
Implement structural Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Actions (CAPA) to minimize rework and defects. - Tooling & Fixtures :
Design custom fabrication fixtures, jigs, and staging layouts to ensure high-tolerance component alignment.
- Education :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Civil/Structural Engineering. - Experience : 2-5 years of hands-on experience in a construction, off-site fabrication, or modular construction environment.
- Technical Skills :
Experience with 3D CAD and BIM software (Solid Works, AutoCAD, Revit). - Methodologies :
Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S frameworks applied to construction assembly. - Problem Solving :
Strong data analysis skills using statistical tools (Minitab, SPC, or Excel) to track cycle times and material yields. - Communication :
Ability to translate complex engineering prints and BIM data into simple instructions for shop floor operators.
- Experience with on-site construction (Framing or foundations)
- Familiarity with ERP/MES systems tailored for fabrication, or structural shop drawing workflows.
- Competitive compensation and performance bonuses.
- Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays.
- Opportunities to shape the future of sustainable, industrialized construction.
