Department: Vision Rehabilitation Program
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Vision Rehabilitation Program
Job Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt
Hourly Range: $30.00 - $32.00 (35 hr work week)
Job Summary /General Duties
Provide all facets of counseling from phone/walk-in information to intake through termination and follow-up to individuals or groups, with a focus in adjustment to vision loss counseling at our Vista office. Clients will be those interested in or are currently participating in Center programs, helping them achieve their highest level of independence and confidence.
Responsibilities
Provide individual and group counseling to Center clients as related to adjustment to vision loss, covering topics such as grief and loss, managing depression and/or anxiety, changes to identity, and addressing change.Represent the organization by providing community presentations, attending tabling events, and other community opportunities.Individual counseling support may range from short-term, one-time support to weekly meetings, depending on client needs. Termination will be determined by the counselor and SDCB administrative staff.Respond to potential clients requesting information and assistance regarding Center services, on a phone or walk-in basis.Assist with clients on-site or over-the-phone who are in crisis.Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and all other reporting as required by the agency.Adhere to all policies regarding client confidentiality.Consult and/or collaborate with SDCB staff and other community professionals who are working on behalf of the client, as appropriate, to assist in client’s progress through services.Establish and maintain effective working relationships between the Center and other community agencies, making referrals and advocating or following up when necessary.Provide Community Education.Collaborate with SDCB staff and other community professionals, as necessary, to facilitate client progress through services.Cultivate and nurture effective relationships between the Center and other community agencies, making referrals and advocating when needed.Conduct Community Education initiatives.Additional Responsibilities
Expand skills and knowledge through in-services offered at the Center and in the community.Attend all required staff meetings and committee assignments.Provide assistance for special events as needed.Know all emergency procedures and adhere to the Illness and Injury Prevention Program.Be responsible for maintaining all professional certificates and/or licenses.This role may involve additional tasks beyond those outlined in the job description. Flexibility in working hours may be required, along with performing duties requested by the supervisor.Qualifications
Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or related field, or Bachelor’s degree with minimum two years of experience.Bilingual proficiency preferred – candidates who are conversational in English/Spanish are preferred.Minimum of two years’ experience working with people who have disabilities.Good working knowledge of community resources.Excellent oral/written communication skills with both individuals and groups.Send a letter of interest and resume to ktaylor .
