Job OverviewThe Associate Director/Director of Accounting provides strategic leadership and oversight of the University’s investment accounting and reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, donor requirements, and higher education regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and coordinate monthly market value adjustments.
- Direct investment accounting and reporting functions; collaborate with the Investment Office.
- Prepare journal entries and oversee investment journal entries and receipts.
- Direct accounting for non‑operating funds; prepare journal entries and oversee investment reporting.
- Oversee calculation and recording of endowment and investment earnings; maintain endowment model.
- Conduct review, analysis, reconciliation, and correction of transactions and balances in the non‑operating accounts.
- Prepare audit work papers and financial statement footnotes for endowment and investments; coordinate with external auditors.
- Perform other duties to support the mission of Baylor; comply with University policies.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required: Bachelor’s degree, three years of experience and a CPA license.
Preferred: Master’s degree and five years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge- Strong technical accounting expertise; experience with complex accounting transactions and willingness to develop investment and endowment accounting expertise.
- Exceptional analytical ability, high accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform tasks independently and collaboratively.
- Capacity to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and ability to manage sensitive information with strict confidentiality.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in complex or sensitive situations with diverse stakeholders.
- Prior experience in public accounting, nonprofit, college, or university environments preferred.
- Ability to critically evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
