Payroll & Accounts Payable leadership role within the Accounting team.
We are seeking a financial leader to oversee payroll, accounts payable, and cash management functions to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation and vendor payments while safeguarding the cooperative’s financial assets.
What You’ll Do- Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and cash management to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of employee compensation, vendor payments, and financial transactions. Manage all payroll activities including wage calculations, tax with holdings, voluntary and involuntary deductions, payroll tax reporting, and maintaining payroll records and procedures.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate benefit deductions and reporting; prepare payroll analyses, labor budgets, statistical reports, and financial exhibits related to employee compensation, benefits, and incentive programs.
- Provide data and support for audits, regulatory reporting, and actuarial reviews; address employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Direct accounts payable and cash management operations including vendor setup and maintenance, invoice review and approval, and processing of vendor payments via checks, ACH, and wire transfers.
- Oversee purchase card programs, manage online banking access, and monitor daily cash positions and short-term cash forecasts to ensure adequate funding and liquidity.
- Review and approve accounting entries related to cash receipts and disbursements; reconcile payables and related accounts; ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements such as 1099 filings, fuel tax reporting, and unclaimed property regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements, resolve payment and coding discrepancies, and ensure accurate financial reporting and efficient operations.
- Lead, coach, and provide direction to employees and work teams to promote safety, productivity, collaboration, and effective performance.
- Collaborate with leadership to establish departmental goals aligned with Brazos Electric’s strategic plan and monitor progress.
- Set performance expectations; provide ongoing feedback and conduct performance evaluations using established management processes.
- Recommend staffing needs and organizational structure; partner with HR in recruitment, hiring, and compensation decisions.
- Support employee development through career planning, training coordination, and skill development initiatives.
- Promote a positive and professional work environment by addressing employee concerns, facilitating conflict resolution, and consistently applying company policies.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and encourage continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
- Reinforce a strong culture of safety and compliance with Brazos Electric’s safety program.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business with a major in Accounting
Experience
- At least five (5) years of experience in accounts payable, payroll processing and governmental payroll reporting
Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, but substantial experience may be substituted
